Day 8: Fish still on the menu

Week 2 of the 2008 Open kicked off a few hours ago - sadly, I was comatose as Mardy Fish upended Gael Monfils in straight sets. That sets up a Quarterfinal match against the winner of the ongoing Nadal v. Querrey match. I'm awake now.

Rafa is currently in a bit of trouble against Sam Querrey. Holy crite! Sam the California has come back to take the second set. Now the partisan American crowd will try to will him to take the match, but Rafa will have him tasting asphalt. You just wait and see!

If he doesn't I'll eat my shorts with chopsticks, for Labor Day dinner.

Elsewhere, over on the lovely ladies side, Dinara Safina did not disappoint. I'm really starting to adore her, by the way. The look of sheer terror in her eyes as she plays is probably one of my top 10 favorite things in this tourney. She'll play the winner of Mauresmo v. Panetta (I'll take Panetta, she's up a set already) in the Quarters.

Yep, we are getting down to business here. By the time America has sobered up from a long Labor Day hedonism experiment, we'll be whittled down to a lonesome few competitors on each side.
