Day 7: Sunny and windy and underway

Day 6 was amazing for the most part, but it kind of fizzled a bit as Mardy Fish exterminated James Blake without ever having to rescind their friendship or having to kick Blake out of his wedding party next month.

Leave it to Blake to go down without a fight. I know that is harsh but I can't praise every tennis player, or can I?

Today it'll be 2003 Champion Andy aka American Izod Roddick, looking to book a spot in the round of 16. He'll be playing Italian Andreas Seppi. That is the third match on Ashe. It will come after Roger aka our holy father takes on Radek aka the worm Stepanek. This will be a test for our heavenly father aka # 2 in the world, as Stepanek is a seeded player (28) with a lot of guile in his bag. Let me put it to you this way: I'll be watching just in case all hell breaks loose.

I'm glued to CBS' coverage and they just presented a piece on how much ground Jankovic covered on a single point. They basically trailed her with a red dotted line. It was a pretty good run - interesting because it really looks like these players are just chilling out and smashing the ball when you watch on TV. Not the whole story, kiddies. You break a sweat when you play this game. Probably explains why the 18 and 19 year old set is having a coming out party yet again.

Did anyone see the 18 year old Japanese gun slinger, Nishikori yesterday? What a match he had with David Ferrer out on the grandstand! He took it in 5 sets with a very tight finish. It sets up a round of 16 showdown between Nishikori, a Bolletieri boy, and Juan Martin Del Potro aka the Argentinian that could (winner of his last 22 matches), age 19. This match will take place on Monday.

Here's the draws for today - there is so much going on, it's absolutely ridiculous. This is the pinnacle of tennis, and sadly, it'll all be over next Sunday. The majors will be done for the year. I'm keeping that in the back of my mind as I enjoy this. It is bittersweet at times.

You guys enjoy the day. Don't be afraid to turn to CBS ever so often while you're vegging there on your couches!!!!

Today's schedule of play.

I've got to get back to watching Jankovic v. Wozniacki in the third set. They are braving the wind and really starting to slug.
